Started in 2005, the Xavier Battle of the Bands is a competitive venue for Xavier students to showcase their musical talents. Student bands are judged by a panel of five judges (one alum, one administrator, one current student, one faculty member, and one parent). Bands are judged on their musical ability and musicianship, style and presentation, crowd response, originality and use of allotted time. The winning band is presented with a cash prize, band members names are engraved on a trophy kept at Xavier, and the band has the chance to perform a short concert immediately following the announcement of the judges’ decision.
Galaxy is a student led, non-competitive talent show. This venue showcases a variety of student talents from vocal and instrumental music to dance, comedy and video productions.
Kairos is a four day retreat for juniors that is led by a team of seniors and adults. The Kairos Retreat aims to create an environment away, a moment in “God’s time”, in which participants may be awakened to the ever-present love of God. Each on of us is called to fullness as a person and closer intimacy with God. Kairos seeks to proclaim and make real this relationship, as well raise awareness of “God in all things”. Through peer ministry, participants experience Christian leadership, support, and community. For more information view the Kairos page.
Each year Campus Ministry students embark on a trip to an area where there is need either because of poverty or a natural disaster, to assist with whatever is needed. The team begins and ends the day with prayer and spends the day working in the community.
TEC is a three day retreat for seniors from Xavier and throughout the diocese. This is an ideal time for these students who are at an age when these young men and women are preparing to make important decisions that will give their lives definite direction. A TEC weekend can be a great opportunity for real personal growth in a community of love and trust. For more information see the TEC page.
