The Xavier Foundation has hired Mary Harken as its new Director of Development. Harken comes to Xavier from Urbandale Chamber of Commerce, where she served for more than six years as Director of Investor Relations. Prior to moving back to her home state of Iowa, she spearheaded marketing efforts for adult degree programs on behalf of private universities nationally as Associate Vice-President for Marketing Services at the Institute for Professional Development in Phoenix, AZ. She brings more than 15 years of leadership, nonprofit, development, and marketing expertise to her role.
As the Foundation’s Director of Development, Harken will oversee the general administration, programs and strategic plan of the Foundation. Additionally, Harken will manage, develop, promote and implement a comprehensive development plan. She will work with (and on behalf of) prospective donors, and assist with the development and completion of annual giving and fund raising initiatives and campaigns; including planned giving programs, major gift campaigns and scholarship endowments.
“2018 will mark the 20-year anniversary of Xavier High School,” Harken stated. “The opportunity to be a part of this stellar team as we celebrate this milestone and embark on the next chapter is truly an honor.”
“We are excited to welcome Mary to the Xavier Foundation,” states Tom Keating, Xavier High School principal. “Mary’s energy, networking skills and commitment to her faith make her a perfect fit for this position. We look forward to Mary’s work in the Foundation and her involvement in our community!”
Harken is a graduate of Upper Iowa University, which is where she earned her Masters of Business Administration. She holds multiple designations and certifications in organizational and non-profit management. Harken will assume her duties on September 6, 2017.
