Please consider committing an hour of your time to prayer in the Chapel on Fridays. Scheduled adorers are critical for the continuation of this ministry, which has proven to be meaningful for the Xavier students and staff, who participate throughout the day during their religion classes.

Currently additional adorers are needed for the following hours: 9:00-10:00 a.m., 10:00-11:00 a.m., 11:00-12:00 p.m., 12:00-1:00 p.m., 1:00-2:00 p.m., and 2:00-3:00 p.m.

For this opportunity to continue to be available in Xavier’s future, additional support will be needed. Responsible adults from throughout the Xavier community are welcome.   • Xhilaration performed on Saturday, February 11th at the “Touch of Class” Show Choir Competition hosted by Benton Community. Xhilaration was selected 1st Runner-Up in the 4A Daytime Division and 3rd Runner-Up overall in the evening finals. The Show Choirs perform again on Saturday, February 25th in the “Raise the Roof” competition hosted by Kennedy.
  • The Wrestling team placed 5th in the Waverly-Shell Rock 3A District on Saturday, February 11th. Jack Boland won the District Championship at 195 and qualified for State. Sean Ickes was the District “Runner-Up” at 152 and qualified for State. Jerry Duball & Kory Donithan placed 3rd. Tyler Laska, William Wright, Nick Drahozal & Jacob Meyers placed 5th and Jarred Joens & Austin Gloede placed 6th.
  • The Girls Basketball team completed their regular season with a record of 16-5 and a 2nd place finish in the MVC “Valley” Division. The Saints are ranked 5th in the Final IGHSAU 4A Poll. The Saints host CR Kennedy on Saturday in a 4A Regional Semifinal. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Admission is $5, NO PASSES will be accepted. Good luck to Coach Lilly and the team as the “Road to State” begins!
  • The Boys Basketball team beat Waterloo East on Tuesday by a score of 64 to 54. The Saints beat 4A 10th ranked Dubuque Senior on Thursday by a score of 53 to 51. The team finished the regular season with a record of 8-8 in the MVC and an overall record of 9-12. The Saints are hosting a 4A Sub State Quarterfinal on Monday, February 20th with CR Washington. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Admission is $6, NO PASSES will be accepted. Good luck to Coach Jenkins and the team as the “road to state” begins!
  • The Girls Bowling team beat Dubuque Senior on Tuesday and finished the regular season with a record of 9-2. The Saints won the MVC “Valley” Division for the first time in school history! The Boys Bowling team finished the regular season with a record of 6-5. The Bowling teams competed in a 1A State Qualifier on Thursday @ Lancer Lanes. The Girls team won the Regional and qualified for State. Tara Trcka won the Regional Championship and Abbey Konzen placed 5th. The State Tournament will be held on Thursday, February 23rd @ Plaza Lanes in Des Moines beginning at 1:00 p.m.
  • The MVC All Conference and All Metro Boys Swim Team for the 2011-12 season has been released. Nick Durin was selected 1st Team MVC in the 100 Fly and 2nd Team MVC in the 100 Breast. John Richardson was selected MVC “Honorable Mention” in the 100 Back and was selected MVC All Academic. Nick Durin was named 1st Team All Metro & John Richardson was named 2nd Team All Metro. Congratulations to both Nick & John on outstanding swim seasons!
  • The Drama Department presented a Children’s Theatre production of “Cinderella” yesterday in the Regis/LaSalle Theatre. Congratulations to Mr. Cervantes and all members of the “cast & crew” on an outstanding first performance! “Cinderella” will be presented again today at 4:30 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. Admission is $2.

    Fr. Zinkula is a native of rural Mt. Vernon. He attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, and received his juris doctor degree from the University of Iowa Law School in 1983. He completed a theology degree at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. He also earned a degree in canon law in 1988.

    Since being ordained, Fr. Zinkula has served in parishes in the Dubuque area. He has spent the past six years serving the parishes of Holy Ghost, Sacred Heart, and Holy Trinity, which merged in 2011 to form Holy Spirit Parish.

    Fr. Zinkula also served as judicial vicar for the Archdiocese 2000 – 2010. He will continue to be active with the Metropolitan Tribunal as a judge and also serve on the board of trustees at Clark University and on the Priest’s Pension Board. Fr. Zinkula is also priest supervisor for the parishes in Urbana, Walker and Vinton.

Let’s help our students to realize that Lent is much more than a time for short term penance and denial. It is a time for conversion – a long term change of heart and mind.

    In Lent we can take stock of the way we live our lives and how that compares to the model we have been given – our Lord, Jesus Christ. In Lent our God has given us another chance to “get it right,” and He reminds us that it’s never too late to change. While we should remind students that abstinence and penance have a place in Lent, we must also help them see that this season is so much more than going without.

    The event includes dinner catered by Winifreds, drinks, dancing, a live and silent auction and games of chance. Tickets are just $45 per person. You do not have to be a member of St. Matthew Parish to attend the event…all are invited to join us for this fun-filled evening! Click here for ticket reservation form.

    As part of the event they are also selling raffle tickets. They are raffling off four different prizes: an iPad, a 50 inch flat screen TV, a hot air balloon ride, and tuition voucher good for free 2012-2013 tuition at St. Matthew or $2,600 towards 2012-2013 tuition at Regis Middle School or Xavier High School! Laugh at Cinderella’s silly step-sisters and cheer on the Prince as he searches for Cinderella with The Glass Slipper. This will be fun for the whole family. The cost is only $2.00 per person and everyone gets a free Cinderella coloring page.
