The dress code of Xavier High School strives to reflect good taste, neatness, cleanliness and Christian modesty while avoiding trends and fads. Students reflect pride in themselves and their school by the way they dress and act. It is expected that parents/guardians, working with the school, will require their students to leave home dressed in accordance with these regulations. The administration reserves the right to interpret dress code. Its decisions are final.
Our goal is to have in place a dress code that is understandable for students, parents and faculty. This dress code is the result of a collaborative process, which included input from students, faculty, and parents.

Days elected as non-dress code days are intended to celebrate or promote special events or high-level school or student accomplishments. The non-dress code days listed below have been determined through student feedback and a collaborative effort with student and teacher leaders. Ultimate decisions regarding non-dress code days are determined by administration.
Theme dress days happen periodically throughout the year (Homecoming, Catholic Schools Week, and others). Students choosing not to participate in themed dress days must be in approved dress code or spirit day attire.
Community Spirit Days are designated for Xavier Community System events such as Community Feast Days, Pep Assemblies, XCEED, and Take the Title.
Shirt - Community shirts must be worn. In cold weather, the Community shirt must be completely visible and worn over all/any long sleeves. No apparel may be worn over the Community shirt.
Xavier Spirit Days are designated for days a team or other group activity is competing in a state event (or highest level of competition) for which they have qualified and can win a championship. The event must be located at a state-hosted venue.
Examples of state tournament spirit days include: basketball, bowling, cross country, football (at UNI), golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, robotics, jazz band.
Shirts that say Xavier (or XHS, or Saints or have the Xavier logo) may be worn. Any hooded sweatshirts must be worn with the hood down.
Spirit Recognition Days are designated to recognize individuals who qualify for the state tournaments, all state events, and the Xavier fall musical and spring play. The individual and their team may participate in this day.
Example of Spirit Recognition days:
One apparel item indicating the event or team as designated by the coach/moderator and approved in advance by administration may be worn with dress code apparel.
State Champions: When students become State Champions, they may wear their state champion apparel as provided by the IGHSAU or IHSAA the day after earning their title (or Monday after for a weekend victory).
Non-Dress Day Requirements
Pants -
Caps, hats, and bandanas are not permitted. An exception is granted for caps for state tournament champions as noted.
Shoes, Accessories, Outerwear and Hair - regular dress code also applies on special dress days for these categories.
Students choosing not to participate in non-dress designated days must be in approved dress code attire.
Students who are in violation of the dress code will receive demerits, will be required to correct the violation, and may be assigned to an in-school suspension or face further discipline if not corrected.
