Xavier has made the decision, based on the guidance received Wednesday May 20, to safely conduct a baseball and/or softball season. Xavier’s consideration in making this decision included the ability to assure compliance with the guidelines set forth by the Governor’s office, the Department of Education, the Department of Public Health, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association. This unique situation will provide guidance for future activities, returning to school options, and any other school related activities in which our students are involved. It is vital that we adhere to these procedures for the health and safety of all those involved. Failure to do so will be a detriment to future Xavier events.
At Xavier, safety is always our first priority. As we work to create the safest possible environment, we ask for your complete cooperation. All students and fans will be required to follow our new policies and procedures, or you will be asked to leave the premises for that day.
Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area teams (CRANDIC) will compete in Freshman and JV Baseball and Sophomore and JV Softball. Practices for all teams, at all levels, will begin on Monday, June 1st. Games will begin the week of June 15th.
All schedules can be found here...
Upon arrival at Xavier, players will be screened by the training staff before exiting your vehicle. When players get to the south parking lot, Xavier's training staff will be checking their temperature and recording this alongside the answers to a few questions about their current health. If a player's temperature is above 100.4, he/she will not be allowed to attend practice/game. If a player feels sick, he/she needs to stay home.
After players pass the temperature check and prior to crossing the bridge to the facility, they will be required to sanitize their hands. Personal bags and equipment must then be placed in designated areas and spaced six feet apart.
As for equipment, we ask that players bring as much of their own equipment as possible to practices and games throughout the season. We do have general helmets, bats, and gear that we can offer, but would feel more comfortable if players all were bringing in their own gear. Everything that Xavier offers will be sanitized before and after practices.
We are working with our coaches and local health department to see how practices will be conducted using smaller groups and as much social distancing as possible during group settings and will plan to meet with the players at their first practices on Monday to review more specific guidance.
Please plan to drop your student off at designated locations:
Spectators (excluding players and coaches) are not allowed to leave cars/enter the facility for practices.
At Xavier: In the south parking lot of the school.
At LaSalle: At the north end of the parking lot by service road to the field.
For games, we will be doing the following in regard to spectators – this includes home and away contests and was voted on by all members of the Mississippi Valley Conference:
Starting June 15, all home games will be played at Xavier High School. This includes 9th Grade Baseball, which is historically played at LaSalle Middle School.
Only spectators with tickets will be allowed into the facility/stadium to watch games this season.
Remember, based on capacity limits at our field, as well as others in the conference, these numbers are what we can make work under the current guidelines we are following. WE DO NOT HAVE EXTRA SEATS. If you do not have a ticket, there will be no admittance.
Ticket allotment is being implemented with all schools in the conference. Spectators will need to check in with the ticket taker and pay the fee at each location. All spectators must have a wrist band and/or be on the pass list. Any spectators with a local pass or Xavier students with a student pass may use the pass for entry but must also have an assigned wristband.
2 TICKETS per dressed player
(all single games this year – not double headers); Home games will be played at Xavier (not LaSalle)
2 TICKETS per dressed player
3 TICKETS per dressed player
3 TICKETS per dressed player
Games will be played prior to Varsity Double headers with CRANDIC League opponents.
All softball and baseball players would be granted a waiver for participation in softball and baseball after the Governor’s emergency declaration has expired. Further guidance from the Department of Education will be forthcoming. Student-athletes will be allowed to practice and participate during the waiver time, even with an expired physical.
With the Department of Education and Archdiocese guidelines related to transportation, Xavier is encouraging players to travel with their parents to all games outside of the CR metro area. Students are allowed to travel on their own to schools within the CR metro area for competitions if you, as a parent, allow them to. These include Kennedy, Jefferson, Washington, Linn-Mar, Prairie, and Marion. In order for students to travel with parents to away games (outside the metro area), parents must complete this waiver. Should you not be able to provide transportation for your student, please indicate this on the form and Xavier will provide transportation for them.
As conditions and guidance continue to be provided to us, we will continue to update our information and procedures to keep everyone as safe as possible. This includes the players, fans, officials, workers, and administration. We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to make the 2020 summer sports season possible at Xavier.
